Detox diets tend to promise amazing results in a short time. They often claim to flush toxins from your body leading to more energy and weight loss.
However detox diets are often very rigid and often suggest avoiding whole food groups which can be a problem, especially for children, teens, pregnant or breastfeeding women and older adults.
Luckily, healthy adults have extraordinary systems for waste removal. Our lungs, kidneys, liver, gastrointestinal tract, and immune system remove toxic substances within hours after we consume them.
The key to feeling more energised is not a detox, but rather a plan to include plenty of healthy nutritious foods each day and get limit unhealthy habits that might be causing you to feel fatigued.
Too much alcohol, cigarette smoking, too much coffee, fried or fatty foods containing saturated and trans fats, sugar-sweetened drinks and refined sugary foods will leave you feeling tired and run down. Eating plenty of fruit, vegetables and whole grain foods, and regular exercise will have you feeling better in no time!
